"What a waste, I could've been your lover
What a waste, I could've been your friend
Perfect love is like a blossom that fades so quick
When it's blowing up a storm in May"
Five days on the road feels like ten days at home, but then days go a lot faster at home. Great long days with enough time to sort out thoughts and frustrations, experiences and impressions. Funny is it how my energy is just growing by the days. Up at six in the morning and in bed after midnight.
"Travel south until your skin turns, woman
Travel south until your skin turns brown
Put a language in your head and get on a train
And then come back to the one you love"
Live music every night, if you want it. Plays are plenty and so are the people. The temperature is doubled and so is the humidity. I'm not quite used to this yet but I can feel my body adapting.
"Yeah, you're great, you're just part
Of this lifetime of dreaming
That extends to the heart
Of this long summer feeling"
A midsummer-night dream is in my future, I can already hear the crackling from the bonfire. The calm of stars on the sky and hate towards mosquitoes. A feeling of freedom and friendship, laughter and dance on the grass by the water.
"Cry at night, you see the TV's glowing
Cry at night, you hear the walls are awake
Being you, I'm getting out of a party crowd
Can I see what's underneath your bed?"
Time will show how long these times will last. When traveling you learn to appreciate every moment of your time, either if you spend it alone or with others. Friendships are made and old ones nurtured. The closer you get to another person, the more necessary is it to show courtesy and respect. Everyone has to leave it to their friends to learn unpleasant things from their enemies.
"Can I stay until the milkman's working?
Can I stay until the cafè awakes?
Do you hate me in the light? Did you get a fright?
When you looked across from where you lay"
The empathy is strengthened a thousand times. Knowing how to use your shield is the most important thing you learn. Most people don't know their stealing your energy and if you don't shield yourself, you might be the biggest thief of them all.
"Yeah, you're great, you're just part
Of this lifetime of dreaming
That extends to the heart
Of this long summer feeling"
Being indefinite is also a choice you make. Ralph Waldo Emerson said that those who cannot tell what they desire or expect, still sigh and struggle with indefinite thought and vast wishes. Are they really? In a way he's right I guess.
"All the history of wars I invent in my head
Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John
All the history of wars I invent in my head
Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John"
All that's left tonight is to enjoy live music and a warm cup of coffee. Everything looks perfect from far away, I try my best to leave.
"What a waste, I could've been your lover
What a waste, I could've been your friend"
Happy father's day,
Jack
